By Karen Michelle Thompson-

In contemporary society, there are many reasons to feel overwhelmed. Between working a full time job, managing kids, household, finances, and other relationships, it?s easy to feel as if you are being pulled in different directions all the time. Feeling overwhelmed is a primary reason that a multitude of people never accomplish their goals. However, we don?t have to remain in this emotional state. There is one simple step that a person can take to manage their tasks and obligations, and it doesn?t have to cost them a dime!

Often, people get up early during the week, get dressed for work, see their families, off, and try to beat the rush hour traffic. We think about the things we have to do during our drive to the office, and immediately become tired at the thought. Some people even wake up with this unpleasant feeling. If you experience this problem regularly, then you may be overwhelmed. The good news is that it can be overcome. The simple method of making a most important things list can become a road map for the overwhelmed individual, and with consistent use, put them on the road to success for relieving the emotion.

While organizing your messy life by creating a daily to do list is a gift, it can be a nightmare too! Putting too many things can add to your misery. If you consistently miss the mark for not completing a large number of tasks, the list can make you feel more overwhelmed than you did before you started. Here are some great tips for making a list that will help you manage your affairs and make you feel successful as well.

  • Make sure that your list only has between 6 and 8 items to complete each day.
  • Remember that everything that is important is not urgent. Do the urgent things first and then work on the important items that are not urgent.
  • Keep the list with you throughout the day and check items off as you complete them.
  • Decide what can be delegated, and then pass it on!
  • At the end of the day, review your list and celebrate your accomplishments.
  • If you don?t finish your list, don?t sweat it! Just put incomplete items on the next day?s list and try again!

There?s one last thing about feeling overwhelmed that you need to know. You shouldn?t be ashamed of it. There are many others who feel the same way. Effective methods for relieving overwhelm can also be reasonable too! One of them is to start the day with a good message or thought. There are plenty of free sources available that share inspirational messages. It?s also critical to change your mindset. This won?t be easy at first, but practice makes perfect! It?s also important to note that if you feel your condition is serious, to seek medical and/or psychological care.
