Brunswick family out of home due to fire - WTOC.com

BRUNSWICK, GA (WTOC) -

Volunteers with the American Red Cross in Brunswick was called out to a family Monday after they were put out of their home due to a fire.

A home on Tillman Avenue was damaged by a fire early Monday morning. The Red Cross worked with the two adults and five children ? who range in age of 1 month to 10 years old, according to the Red Cross.

It broke out at about 1:30 a.m. Monday. The family heard popping noises and smoke was coming from behind make-shift bedroom door that went to a bedroom.

The Brunswick City Fire Department arrived and had to get into the room, which was locked from the inside, to put out the fire.

There was minor damage to the home.

"Because the fire appeared to be electrical in nature, and the electricity to the entire house had to be disrupted, it was not possible for the family to stay in the home," said Deputy Chief May in a news release.

At the time of the fire, the family said they were going to stay with friends. But the victims came to the Red Cross office on Rose Avenue in Brunswick on Tuesday to request assistance, according to the organization.
