Haddin praises Watson as the complete T20 package ? Cricket News Update
As the Sydney Sixers gear up to compete in the Champions League T20 in South Africa this month, skipper Brad Haddin has praised all-rounder Shane Watson, fresh from the recently wrapped-up ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka, claiming the 31-year-old is a complete T20 package.
?There are some very good T20 players but I think the package you get with ?Watto? [is] bat, bowl and field. The best thing about him is guys like Watto actually win you cricket games,? Haddin said.
?If they go off they take the game totally out of the hands of the opposition,? he added. ?At the moment, as we've all seen, in a few of those innings he's playing he is playing a different game to all of us.?
The Sydney Sixers, winners of the inaugural edition of Australia?s Big Bash League last year, are among the teams who qualified directly for the CLT20, and have been placed in Group B for the tournament which will begin on October 13 once the ongoing qualifying stages are complete.
The Sixers have been joined in South Africa by several team members who will be coming in directly from the World T20 in Sri Lanka, among these Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Watson.
Currently the ICC?s top-ranked T20 all-rounder, Watson is arguably among the most exciting players in the Sixers? line-up. The all-rounder put in an astonishing display in the World T20, which saw him bagging the Player of the Tournament award, despite Australia?s inability to proceed to the finals of the competition after losing to the West Indies in the semi-finals.
The right-hander bagged four consecutive Player of the Match awards in Australia?s four successive victories in the tournament, almost single-handedly leading the charge with both bat and ball. He was the highest run-getter in the tournament, scoring a total of 249 runs in 6 matches, in addition to being the second-highest wicket-taker, with 11 scalps to his credit.
The Sixers will be banking on Watson to carry the same momentum into their CLT20 campaign, as they prepare to face the 2012 Indian Premier League runners-up Chennai Super Kings on October 14 for their first match, at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
